Gerald Leppert

Gerald Leppert, Dipl. (equivalent to MSc) and PhD candidate, graduated in economics and political science at the University of Cologne, Germany. His diploma thesis focused on the “Insurability of high risk groups in micro health insurance units in India”. He currently works as research assistant and lecturer at the Department for Cooperative Studies and the Department of Social Policy of the University of Cologne. He is project coordinator of the international project “Pro MHI Africa - EU-African university network to strengthen community-based micro health insurance“, working on health care financing and micro health insurance in Botswana, Ghana and Malawi. Besides this, he participates in health financing projects conducted by German Technical Cooperation (GTZ). His main research interests include social risk management strategies, links between micro health insurance and public social security systems as well as financial sustainability of micro health insurance schemes in low-income countries.
